Before you buy

CO2 or fiber?

Most people are moving to fiber. There is a small application for plastics, wood or laminated metals where CO2 is still better, but for most sheet metal work fiber is the way to go.

Wattage

More wattage means more speed and thicker cutting capacity. The general market is moving to more and more watts.

The resonator and the cutting head

Hours are important, and whether any of the fiber modules have been replaced is a good place to start. The cutting head is the next most important item.

What it costs to move

The overall cost to move a laser can be overlooked.

Getting one inspected

We always strongly recommend an inspection before you buy. KD does not perform it ourselves — the inspection is done by you, by a third-party technician, or by the OEM.

We have a network of 3rd party techs whom we can recommend. Most buyers are looking at a machine in another state or across the country, and sending a tech who is already nearby saves the travel time and cost of going to see it yourself.

KD runs lien searches on every transaction so that our buyers can have peace of mind that they are purchasing an asset that does not have any active liens on it. We take this very seriously and are willing to pass up a deal if the seller won't cooperate on getting active liens cleared.
