Plastic Rotational Molding

Rotational molders come in a few distinct types, and which you need depends on part size, volume and floor space. Most that KD has listed fall between $42,500 and $149,500. We source these to order rather than carrying them in depth, so the fastest route is to tell us what you are after.

Most of the 26 rotational molders KD has listed fall between $42,500 and $149,500, with asking prices across the group running from $19,500 to $429,000.

Which type of rotational molder do you need?

The four you will come across are carousel, shuttle, rock & roll and clamshell.

We are not going to hand you a rule for choosing between them, because in our experience there is not a useful one. Part size, production volume, floor space and how many moulds you want running at once all feed into it, and the weighting between them is specific to your operation. Buyers who come to us for a rotomolder generally already know which style suits their process — and where they are not sure, that is a conversation about the parts rather than something a page can settle.

What we do need from you is short, and it is in the next section.

What does a used rotational molder cost, and how does KD source them?

Across the 26 rotational molders KD has listed with a published asking price, most fall between $42,500 and $149,500, with the full range running from $19,500 to $429,000. The median machine we have listed was built in 1997, and the fleet spans 1985 to 2018 — this is a class where a well-kept older machine is a normal purchase rather than a compromise.

Ferry is the builder we have handled most, at 19 machines and a median asking price of about $179,000. We are not quoting figures for the others — FSP, McNeil, STP, REI and Sheiner among them — because below about ten priced machines a median is not a market rate but an anecdote with a dollar sign on it.

We will be straight with you about supply: rotational molding equipment is not a class we carry in depth. Those 42 machines are spread across our whole history, and it is normal for only one or two to be live at any moment. The figures above tell you what this equipment has asked when we have had it, not what is sitting on the floor today.

What we do instead is source them. We are asked for rotomolding equipment regularly enough that we keep an eye out, and we have a network of sellers well beyond what is listed on our own site. If you tell us the type, the part size and the sort of volume you are running, we can go and look.

What should you tell us to get a useful answer?

Two things, and we can start looking:

  • The style of machine — carousel, shuttle, rock & roll or clamshell.
  • Your swing diameter requirement — the size of the envelope your part has to turn in.

That is genuinely it to begin with. Anything else — arm count, production volume, the floor space and power you have — is worth mentioning if you already know it, but it is not what we need to start the search, and we would rather hear from you with two answers than not hear from you while you gather five.

If we have something in stock it will be on our current inventory page. If we do not, that is worth a conversation rather than a dead end — this is a market where the right machine often turns up through a phone call rather than a listing.

Frequently asked questions

Does KD have rotational molding machines in stock?

Sometimes, but not in depth. We have listed 42 over the years — from Ferry, FSP, McNeil, STP, REI and Sheiner — but it is normal for only one or two to be live at once. Check our current inventory, and if nothing suits, tell us what you need and we will source it.

How much does a used rotational molding machine cost?

Across the 26 rotational molders KD has listed with a published price, most fall between $42,500 and $149,500, with the full range running from $19,500 to $429,000. Ferry, the builder we have handled most, runs to a median of about $179,000 across 19 machines. These are asking prices from our own listings rather than a record of final transaction values.

What types of rotational molder are there?

The four you will encounter are carousel, shuttle, rock and roll, and clamshell. Which suits you depends on your part size, your production volume and the floor space you have available.

Can KD find a machine that is not listed on the site?

Yes, and for rotational molding equipment that is usually how it works. We have a network of sellers well beyond our own listings. Tell us the type, part size and volume you need and we will look.

What should I include when I enquire?

Two things to start: the style of machine you want – carousel, shuttle, rock and roll or clamshell – and your swing diameter requirement. Anything else is useful if you know it, but those two are enough for us to begin looking.

How do I choose between carousel, shuttle, rock and roll and clamshell?

Part size, production volume, floor space and how many moulds you want running at once all feed into it, and the weighting is specific to your operation. Most buyers already know which style suits their process. If you are not sure, it is a conversation about your parts rather than something a page can settle.
